About PCS

Company History

PCS's unique, state-of-the-art pulse combustion technology was developed in the late 1980's by a private company named NEA Technologies, which was founded by a visionary entrepreneur in San Francisco named P. William Parish. Mr. Parish's #2 executive was James A. Rehkopf, who supervised the technology development and its first application, which was an exclusive license for spray drying, granted to a Minneapolis company named Hosakawa Bepex. NEA assigned the license and the patents to Mr. Rehkopf, and focused on other projects.

Bepex sold four dryers over a four-year period, and became discouraged at the slow pace of sales. In 1995, Mr. Rehkopf agreed with Bepex to terminate the license, and founded J. Jireh Corporation to carry the technology forward. Jireh provided engineering support for the Bepex installations, fabricated and shipped a dryer to Degussa Corporation in Germany, and established a pilot plant demonstration facility in Payson, Arizona after participating in a drying project there.

In 2000, the Gas Research Institute (GRI) partnered with Jireh to create Pulse Combustion Systems LLC, which established a production-scale dryer in Payson, and sold a dryer in 2002 to Berghausen Corporation in Cincinnati. GRI later withdrew, and Jireh adopted the trade name Pulse Combustion Systems.

Mr. Rehkopf made a strategic decision in 2003 to better use the two PCS dryers in Payson by emphasizing product development and toll drying, and by 2004, a robust toll-drying business was in operation, and Mr. Rehkopf added staff to handle the operations. In 2005, dryer sales restarted with the sale of a small production dryer to a confidential customer, and the sale of three Combustor/Atomizer units to a customer in South Africa.

In mid-2006, another Combustor/Atomizer unit was sold and shipped to South Africa, and in the fall, AltairNano, Inc. of Reno, Nevada, ordered two mid-size production dryers. Staff was again expanded to handle the fabrication activities, and PCS grew to a total of 9 employees.

Throughout the history of the company, Mr. Rehkopf has experienced the blessing and provision of God, so much so that in 1995 when he was creating the company that would go forward from that point, he dedicated himself and the new company to God and to His Son, Jesus Christ. Mr. Rehkopf named the company J. Jireh Corporation, which is derived from Genesis 22:1-14, where Abraham tells his son Isaac that "the LORD will provide." The Hebrew words were "Jehovah Jireh."
