PCS’s “Plug and Play” Dryer Installed and Operating Smoothly

Payson, Arizona – Pulse Combustion Systems (PCS) today provided an update on its first “Plug and Play” pulse combustion spray dryer. The dryer was commissioned at PCS’s factory in Payson, Arizona last summer, and was trucked to the manufacturing facilities of Tecsiquim SA of Mexico City. Because the dryer was completely modular, it was simple and fast to set up and to put into production. Tecsiquim has reported that the PCS dryer is running as expected, and the company has already begun drying a second product in the dryer.

“We called the customer to follow up on how things are going.” said James A. Rehkopf, President of Pulse Combustion Systems.  “We were very pleased to learn that there were no problems with the dryer, and that they had already started drying new feed materials. This is impressive, and is a testament to the skill and capabilities of Tecsiquim managers and engineers.”

Earthrise Nutritionals Commissions PCS Dryer; Holds Grand Opening of New Facility

Payson, Arizona – Pulse Combustion Systems (PCS) announced today that its customer Earthrise Nutritionals LLC has commissioned a PCS Model P-1 Production Dryer purchased from PCS, and showcased the dryer as part of Earthrise’s grand opening ceremony on July 31. The PCS Dryer was used as a backdrop for the photo of the attendees, and the dryer can be seen in the attached blog post of the Algae Biomass Organization.

“We are very pleased to supply one of our dryers to Earthrise,” said James Rehkopf, President of Pulse Combustion Systems. “Our pulse dryers make a demonstrably better powder from algal products, and we are excited to begin a relationship with Earthrise, and with its parent company, DIC, formerly Dai Nippon Inks and Chemicals.”

“I was honored to be able to attend the grand opening and to visit with Earthrise managers and see the skillful way that they installed our dryer,” continued Rehkopf. “We look forward to providing engineering support to Earthrise, and to growing with them as they expand their Linablue® product line.”

The dryer at Earthrise was formerly installed at PCS’s Payson, Arizona plant as a production tolling dryer, and was disassembled and shipped to Earthrise’s Calipatria plant by PCS. PCS then installed a new production tolling dryer in its Payson plant.

PCS Demonstrates Atomization Capabilities for Fibrous Materials

Payson, Arizona – Pulse Combustion Systems (PCS) is pleased to announce that it has demonstrated new atomization capabilities of its Pulse Combustion Spray Dryers.

“We are excited about our ability to atomize and dry slurries of large-fiber materials that would instantly clog the nozzle of a conventional tall-form spray dryer,” said James Rehkopf, President. “Our ‘open pipe’ feed and extremely turbulent drying environment allow us to directly feed these difficult products to our dryer and make powder out of them.”

The company welcomes inquiries about this new capability. For questions and more information, please contact James Rehkopf at 415 726 3536 or jrehkopf@pulsedry.com.

As a result, we have delivered even better products to our toll-drying customers.”

“Another exciting part of the project involved a complete upgrade of our electrical installation and an expansion of our building,” Rehkopf continued, “The next step is a GMP certification to add to our Kosher and Organic certs.” Photos of the new dryer are in our Gallery.

The company is using the new dryer for toll drying and scaleup demonstrations, and welcomes inquiries about either of these activities. For questions and more information, please contact James Rehkopf at 415 726 3536 or jrehkopf@pulsedry.com.

Technical Paper Authored by Drying Expert with Assistance from James Rehkopf is Published

Payson, Arizona – Pulse Combustion Systems (PCS) is pleased to announce that a Technical Paper has been published in Food and Bioprocess Technology, an International Journal. The paper is entitled “Pulse Combustion Spray Drying of Egg White: Energy Efficiency and Product Quality” and can be accessed here.

The principal author of the paper is Dr. Zhonghua Wu of the College of Mechanical Engineering, Tianjin University of Science and Technology, 1038 Dagulan road, Hexi District, Tianjin, 300222, P.R. China. PCS’s President, James Rehkopf, provided pulse-drying technical and operating information, and assisted in the drafting of the article.

“We are very pleased to see the publication of this paper in a respected journal,” said James Rehkopf. “Even more satisfying are the results of the study, which show nearly zero degradation of sensitive egg white proteins when dried in our pulse combustion spray dryer. This is in marked contrast to the damage to egg white proteins in conventional spray dryers. We appreciate Dr. Wu’s recognition of this major advantage of pulse combustion drying.”

A downloadable copy of the paper can be found on our website (HERE).
